I teach permaculture classes and courses that vary from 90 minutes to two weeks in length. Since 2009 I’ve been teaching an annual Design Certificate Course with Finger Lake Permaculture Institute¬†outside of Ithaca, NY, in a 16 day residential format.

There is a lot of variety in how permaculture is taught, which ultimately is for the good. It also means that potential students should exercise discretion, and make sure that any course – but especially longer and more expensive ones – will serve their goals as a learner. I continue to teach with Finger Lakes Permaculture because I can do the kind of education that inspires me: participatory, science-based, nurturing – and with critical and compassionate attention to the political-economic context of the ecological issues at stake.
